Orlando Pirates head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou has refuted rumors of a possible dispute with his assistant coach, Mandla Ncikazi, emphasizing that the club's environment is still positive.
During the Buccaneers' media day on Thursday, the French-Moroccan coach expressed frustration with speculation hinting at a breakdown in his relationship with Ncikazi. He asserted that there are no issues within the technical team and urged others to refrain from spreading unsubstantiated rumors that might cause unnecessary tension.
Earlier this week, reports had surfaced suggesting Ncikazi might leave the club, including claims that Ouaddou had requested his assistant’s exit and would consider resigning if the matter was not resolved, particularly following Ncikazi's absence from several matches.
However, Ouaddou referenced an official statement from the Pirates clarifying that Ncikazi was recovering from knee surgery at his home in KwaZulu-Natal. “The club issued a statement about that; he had surgery, and now he’s recovering. I wish him all the best, that’s all I can say,” remarked Ouaddou.
He further criticized media reports trying to escalate the situation into a controversy. "We read many things about that, but everything is okay in the club, the environment is okay," he noted, stressing that Ncikazi's recovery shouldn't be a source of conflict.
Additionally, Ouaddou highlighted a recent affectionate gesture between the two coaches as a demonstration of their bond, saying, “Someone who is kissing someone on his forehead, you cannot start to invent any stories.”
His statements come as Pirates gear up for their upcoming matches, with the coach eager to focus on football rather than speculation about the technical staff.
At this time, Ouaddou has firmly quashed allegations of a rift, while the club maintains that Ncikazi is recuperating from surgery. Supporters will be keeping an eye out for updates on the assistant coach’s recovery.
