Jessica Motaung Drops Massive Announcement That Could Change Chiefs, Pirates and Sundowns Forever

Jessica Motaung Praises COSAFA Leagues as ACA Alignment Gains Momentum

African Clubs Association (ACA) Deputy Chairperson Jessica Motaung has praised the competitiveness of football leagues in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) region, highlighting their potential to contribute to the growth and development of African club football.

Motaung believes Southern Africa has an important role to play in building a stronger, more connected football community across the continent. She has emphasised the importance of cooperation between clubs, leagues and football administrators as the ACA continues working towards improving professionalism and creating sustainable opportunities for African clubs.

COSAFA represents football associations across Southern Africa and provides a platform for regional competitions and collaboration. Its leagues contribute to developing players, strengthening domestic football structures and preparing teams for the demands of continental competitions.

Motaung's position within the ACA provides an opportunity to strengthen relationships between Southern African clubs and other football stakeholders across Africa.

Launched in November 2023, the ACA was established to represent the interests of professional clubs and give them a stronger collective voice in decisions affecting African football. Its priorities include improving governance, expanding commercial opportunities and promoting closer cooperation between clubs and football authorities.

These objectives are particularly important as clubs face challenges involving financial sustainability, infrastructure, fixture scheduling and participation in demanding domestic and continental competitions.

In South Africa, leading clubs such as Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns continue to pursue domestic success while seeking to strengthen their continental ambitions.

However, improving competitiveness requires more than strong performances on the pitch. Effective administration, improved club licensing, reliable infrastructure and stronger commercial partnerships are also essential for long-term progress.

Motaung's praise for COSAFA leagues reflects the growing recognition that regional cooperation can help African clubs improve their standards and influence the future direction of the game.

The challenge will be translating this alignment into tangible results that benefit clubs, players, supporters and investors.

With the ACA providing a platform for collaboration, Southern African football has an opportunity to contribute meaningfully towards a more professional, competitive and financially sustainable future for African club football.
