Elias Mokwana, Star of Bafana Bafana, Nears Signing With Kaizer ChiefsAfter reportedly reaching an agreement on personal terms, Kaizer Chiefs are set to complete a major signing. Elias Mokwana, an international for Bafana Bafana, is expected to join the Soweto giants this week.Amakhosi have reportedly made great strides in their pursuit of the 27-year-old winger, as the two clubs reached an agreement on personal terms on Monday, according to SABC Sport.

As Naturena seeks to bolster its attacking department, the remaining details of the deal are now being finalized.Having said that, the relocation is far from done. The transfer cannot be finalized until Mokwana has undergone and passed a medical examination. The player is a free agent at the moment, so if all goes according to plan, the Chiefs could sign him without having to pay a transfer fee. After Mokwana and Tunisian powerhouse Esperance de Tunis agreed to end their contract in September, he became available.

After spending the 2025–26 season on loan with Saudi Arabian club Al-Hazem, he decided to call it quits. After making an impression at Sekhukhune United, the winger initially signed with Esperance in August 2024. He was able to cement his place as a world-class footballer thanks to his stellar play in the Premier Soccer League, which opened doors for him to play abroad.Curiously, Kaizer Chiefs have previously expressed interest in signing Mokwana.

The club kept tabs on him until 2024, when he decided to relocate to Tunisia. Amakhosi may have missed out on their man during that transfer window, but new information suggests they may finally get him.The Chiefs are hoping to boost their offensive output under head coach Fernando Da Cruz, and his possible arrival could not come at a more important time.

Following a string of disappointing results in recent competitions, the squad needs a boost in final third creativity, speed, and consistency.Mokwana could give the technical team another option on the front line with his direct attacking style, physicality, and international experience. As the Amakhosi strive to bolster their roster and contend for major trophies, the news of the potential signing comes as a relief to the club's supporters. All signs point to Mokwana starting a new chapter at Naturena soon, though we are still waiting for an official announcement.
