DUBA FIRES BACK AT TS GALAXY AFTER HAT-TRICK HEROICS

JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 28 OCTOBER 2026 — Kaizer Chiefs striker Wandile Duba has delivered a powerful response to TS Galaxy after leading Amakhosi to a convincing 3-0 victory in the Carling Knockout Cup round of 16 at FNB Stadium on Tuesday night.

The 22-year-old forward was the undisputed star of the encounter, scoring all three goals in the second half to send the Soweto giants into the quarter-finals. His outstanding performance also provided the perfect response to the social media banter that had dominated the build-up to the highly anticipated clash.

According to the post-match interview broadcast on SuperSport TV, Duba admitted that TS Galaxy's online comments had motivated the Chiefs players to produce a strong performance and secure victory.

“These ones disrespected us a lot on social media for the past two weeks,” Duba said.

He added: “We knew today that we had to win this game. The donkeys made them run today, and they were nowhere to be seen.”

The striker's comments quickly became a talking point among South African football supporters, with his response adding another layer of drama to an already entertaining cup encounter.

Duba delivers a memorable performance

After a competitive first half ended without goals, Chiefs returned from the break with renewed determination and broke the deadlock in the 48th minute.

Duba finished a low cross from Pule Mmodi after good attacking combination play involving Mduduzi Shabalala. The goal gave Amakhosi the breakthrough they needed to take control of the match.

The forward doubled the advantage in the 62nd minute after TS Galaxy goalkeeper Melusi Mathebula saved Mfundo Vilakazi's penalty. Duba reacted quickly to the rebound and fired the ball into the net.

Just four minutes later, he completed his hat-trick by running onto an excellent through ball from Shabalala before calmly beating the advancing goalkeeper.

The three goals secured a comfortable victory for Chiefs, while Duba's clinical finishing earned him the Man of the Match award.

The result also represented an important boost for Fernando da Cruz's team following their disappointing elimination from the CAF Confederation Cup at the hands of Zambia's Red Arrows.

Chiefs turn attention to the Soweto Derby

With their place in the Carling Knockout Cup quarter-finals secured, Amakhosi will now await the draw to discover their next opponents.

However, their immediate focus shifts to a crucial Betway Premiership encounter against arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on Saturday, 31 October, at FNB Stadium.

Duba's remarkable performance has given Chiefs supporters renewed hope ahead of the Soweto Derby, one of the biggest fixtures on the South African football calendar.

For the young striker, the hat-trick was more than a personal achievement. It was a statement performance that helped Chiefs progress in the competition while answering their opponents' pre-match provocations on the pitch.
