Rulani Mokwena’s impressive start at Pyramids FC has continued after the South African coach guided his team to a 14th consecutive victory since taking charge of the Egyptian club.
Pyramids secured a hard-fought 1-0 win over Smouha in the Egyptian League Cup on Monday, November 3, extending their remarkable winning streak and maintaining their perfect record under the former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor.
The match was not an easy assignment for Mokwena’s side, as Smouha proved to be a difficult opponent. However, Pyramids showed patience and determination to find a way through, with a second-half goal from a 23-year-old midfielder making the difference.
The victory was particularly important for Pyramids as they continue their campaign in the Egyptian League Cup. It was their second successive win in the competition after opening their group-stage campaign with an entertaining 3-2 victory over Al Qanah.
Those results have placed Pyramids at the top of their group with six points from two matches. More importantly, they have continued to show the consistency that Mokwena will want from his players as the season progresses.
Since arriving at the Egyptian club, the former Sundowns coach has managed to win all 14 matches, an impressive achievement that highlights the positive impact he has made in a relatively short period.
Mokwena has previously built a reputation in South African football for his attacking approach, attention to detail and ability to get the best out of his players. His latest results in Egypt are likely to attract even more attention from football supporters back home, especially those who have followed his coaching career at Mamelodi Sundowns.
However, the South African tactician will know that maintaining such a record becomes increasingly difficult as opponents become more familiar with his team's playing style.
His attention will now turn to the next assignment, with Pyramids preparing to welcome El Daklyeh in a Round of 32 encounter in the Egypt Cup.
Mokwena will be targeting another victory as he looks to extend his winning run to 15 matches and continue what has been a remarkable beginning to his time in Egyptian football.
For now, the former Sundowns mentor has every reason to be satisfied with his team's progress, but the biggest challenge will be keeping the winning momentum going throughout the campaign.
