The Heartbreaking Downfall of Kgotso Moleko That Left Fans in Tears

Ex-Kaizer Chiefs Star Kgotso Moleko Reveals the Surprising Story Behind His Move to Lesotho

Former Kaizer Chiefs defender Kgotso Moleko has opened up about how his move to Lesotho Premier League outfit Lifofane FC came about, revealing that the club had been interested in securing his services months before he eventually made the switch.

The experienced right-back joined Lifofane in June 2026 after representing Mangaung Unite in the South African third-tier ABC Motsepe League. His move marked a fresh chapter in his football career, taking his experience beyond South African borders as he looks to make a meaningful contribution to his new club.

Speaking to FARPost, Moleko explained that Lifofane's interest in him began during the previous season when he was playing for Mangaung Unite in Bloemfontein.

According to the defender, representatives of the Lesotho club approached him after his first match for Mangaung in December 2025. At the time, Moleko was still working his way back to full fitness after recovering from an injury that had kept him away from football.

The initial discussions quickly developed into a serious opportunity, with Lifofane expressing a desire to bring him into their squad as early as January 2026.

However, Moleko was determined to honour his commitments to Mangaung Unite, who were competing for the Free State ABC Motsepe League title and had ambitions of reaching the national promotional playoffs.

The former Amakhosi defender therefore declined the opportunity to leave midway through the campaign, choosing instead to complete the season with his South African club.

Moleko explained that he had reached an understanding with Lifofane's management that he would join them after the conclusion of the national playoffs. The club respected that arrangement and waited until the end of the campaign to secure his signature.

His decision reflected a commitment to professionalism and loyalty, particularly as Mangaung Unite were counting on his experience during a crucial stage of their season.

Although Mangaung ultimately failed to secure promotion, Moleko's performances helped the team win the provincial title and qualify for the national playoffs held in Mthatha in June 2026.

Lifofane, meanwhile, entered the new season with ambitions of challenging for the Lesotho league championship after finishing as runners-up in the previous campaign.

The club's decision to recruit an experienced defender like Moleko was aimed at strengthening its squad and improving its chances of competing for major honours.

Moleko has already begun making his presence felt, earning the Man of the Match award following Lifofane's 3-0 victory over Villa FC.

Despite the team's inconsistent start to the campaign, the veteran defender's experience could prove valuable as Lifofane attempt to climb the league standings.

For Moleko, the move represents more than a change of club. It is an opportunity to continue competing, rebuild momentum in his career and bring his experience from South African football to a new environment.

His journey also highlights how patience, commitment and professional relationships can shape a player's next career move.
