African Stars head coach Gerald Guther believes Orlando Pirates have the quality and potential to progress to the latter stages of the CAF Champions League this season, highlighting the respect the South African giants command in African football.

Guther shared his assessment of Pirates' continental ambitions in a video discussing the club's chances in the competition. The African Stars coach expressed confidence in the Soweto giants' ability to compete against some of the continent's strongest teams, suggesting they have the necessary qualities to make a significant impact.

Orlando Pirates are among South Africa's most established football clubs, with a rich history of competing at the highest level domestically and on the continental stage. Their experience in African competitions could prove valuable as they seek to challenge for honours against formidable opponents from across the continent.

The Buccaneers famously reached the CAF Champions League final in 2013, demonstrating their ability to compete with Africa's elite clubs. That achievement remains an important part of their continental history and provides a reminder of what the club can accomplish when performing at its best.

Guther's assessment suggests that Pirates possess the squad quality and competitive experience required to progress deep into the tournament. However, turning that potential into results will depend on their consistency, tactical discipline and ability to handle pressure during crucial matches.

The CAF Champions League presents several challenges, including difficult away fixtures, hostile atmospheres and opponents with different tactical approaches. Pirates will need to remain defensively organised while taking their opportunities in front of goal if they are to maintain their ambitions.

Balancing continental commitments with domestic football will also be important, particularly as the season progresses and the demands on the squad increase.

Although Guther did not specify exactly how far he expects Pirates to advance, his comments reflect confidence in their ability to compete at a high level.

For Pirates, the challenge will be to justify that belief through strong performances and consistent results as they pursue continental success.
