Young Africans Part Ways With Manqoba Mngqithi After Disappointing Results

Tanzanian champions Young Africans have reportedly ended their relationship with South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi after a challenging period that has sparked concerns over the team's recent performances.

This development, announced on Saturday, October 24, 2026, signifies a significant shift in Mngqithi's brief tenure at the club. He joined Young Africans at the start of the 2026/27 season with the aim of upholding their domestic success and enhancing their performance in continental tournaments.

Mngqithi brought with him a strong coaching pedigree, having spent over a decade in various roles at Mamelodi Sundowns, where he was part of a successful team that garnered numerous major trophies.

His expertise made him a pivotal hire for Young Africans, a club with lofty aspirations from its fans. After clinching the Tanzanian league title, the team aimed to maintain its top position and advance in the CAF Champions League.

However, mounting pressure has followed a string of lackluster results in the league. Most recently, Young Africans faced a 2-1 loss against their rivals Simba SC, followed by a frustrating goalless draw with TRA United.

The tie with TRA United was especially disappointing for the defending champions, who could not convert their efforts into a victory. With this result, they find themselves five points behind league leaders Simba SC, intensifying scrutiny on the team's performance.

As a club that aims to compete for silverware each season, dropping points in consecutive matches has raised the stakes for an urgent turnaround. Mngqithi's reported departure signifies a considerable change as Young Africans seek to regain their momentum.

This change also marks a significant moment in Mngqithi's career, as his stints at Sundowns and Golden Arrows established him as a knowledgeable tactician in African football.

Now, attention shifts to what Young Africans will do next and whether they will appoint a new head coach to lead the team for the remainder of the season.

While reports suggest that Mngqithi and the club have parted ways, more official information regarding this decision and the plans for a successor is awaited.

For the time being, supporters of Young Africans are eager to see the club overcome its recent struggles and get back to winning as the competition for the Tanzanian league title intensifies.
