Da Cruz Fumes After Defeat: “We Should’ve Won 3-0 or 4-0” as Chiefs Crash Out Against Red Arrows

After Amakhosi's disappointing withdrawal from the CAF Confederation Cup, Kaizer Chiefs coach Fernando da Cruz vented his frustrations, claiming his team had enough scoring chances to easily defeat Red Arrows.

Chiefs’ head coach Da Cruz felt let down by his team’s goal-scoring performance in Friday night’s second leg of their CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round match against the Zambian side.

The giants from Soweto came into the encounter needing to win the second leg after losing the first in Zambia, 1-0. The Chiefs fought hard back home, but they couldn't muster the clinical finishing touch that would have allowed them to advance.

In his post-match comments, Da Cruz insisted that his squad had dominated play and had many scoring chances but had been unable to convert any of them.

"We were the better team the whole time; we had numerous scoring opportunities," Da Cruz said.

Even more disappointing was the result, according to the Chiefs coach, who thought his team had done enough in open play to warrant a resounding win.

The reason we lost before penalties was because we had so many scoring opportunities, he said.

Particularly, Da Cruz bemoaned his team's finishing, saying that with the amount of chances they had, the score should have been much more comfortable.

According to him, they should have won by a score of 3-0 or 4-0.

His remarks emphasise Amakhosi's persistent offensive inefficiency, which cost them in a pivotal continental match due to their failure to convert good chances.

Chiefs' loss is just the latest setback in an already poor season. They had a chance to exploit home field advantage to reverse the first-leg outcome and extend their group stage ambitions, but they were unable to do so.

As the club turns its attention to its domestic obligations, Da Cruz's evaluation also calls into question the team's poise in front of goal. This is an area that may need immediate correction.

Although generating chances is crucial in offensive football, the ability to convert them is even more vital in knockout events, when a team's destiny may be decided by missed chances.

Fans of the Chiefs, who were hoping for a big reaction from their team after the loss in Zambia in the first leg, would be disappointed with the outcome.

Da Cruz's comments demonstrate his dissatisfaction: in his opinion, Amakhosi had enough chances to win easily but lost because they couldn't convert their domination into goals.
