Pitso Mosimane's relation to a commission issue involving R1.25 million stems from his transfer to the Iranian football team Esteghlal, and the subsequent legal scandal has engulfed South African sport once again.
Iranian football agent Hamed Ghadiri has gone to the Johannesburg High Court to settle a dispute over claims that he was uncompensated for his services in helping Mosimane go to the Iranian team.
The Sunday Times cites court records in which Ghadiri asserts that in October 2024, he was authorised by MT Sports Marketing and Management, the sports management company owned by Moira Tlhagale, to begin discussions with Esteghlal about the appointment of Mosimane and his technical team.
In his lawsuit, Ghadiri claims that Mosimane signed a contract with the Iranian club on October 18, 2024, after receiving a job offer via his connections.
Esteghlal is allegedly expecting a $100,000 (about R1.6 million) agent's fee, which is at the heart of the legal dispute.
According to Ghadiri, MT Sports promised to pay him $75,000—75% of the expected agency fee—for his role in arranging the contract.
The agent, however, claims that he is still owed money even though he has done everything by the book and helped get the agreement.
According to the court documents, Ghadiri also used a WhatsApp message that Mosimane supposedly sent on February 28, 2025.
The agent claims that Mosimane told him not to worry about the overdue payment since his wife will take care of it.
Additionally, Ghadiri asserts that Mosimane assured him that the commission matter would be settled after the proper football channels had been used to resolve his disagreement with Esteghlal about outstanding payments.
Tlhagale and MT Sports both deny the agent's claims in whole or in part, which has further muddled the situation.
The Johannesburg High Court has heard that Tlhagale and her business admitted in their answer that Ghadiri had introduced Mosimane to Esteghlal.
But they claim he was just supposed to contact the Iranian team to see whether they were interested in hiring the South African coach, and that was the extent of his power.
His lack of authorisation to continue discussions, finalise contracts, or collect agency fees is their principal argument.
Alfonso Leon Lleo, another agent registered with FIFA, worked with Tlhagale, according to the accused, who also claim that Lleo handled future discussions.
The purported service agreement is the subject of yet another significant dispute. Tlhagale and MT Sports allegedly contest the document's legitimacy, claiming that the appropriate individuals never properly signed it. Ghadiri, on the other hand, claims that it proved his entitled to the commission.
They also argue that Esteghlal's agency fee had to be received by MT Sports before the promised payment could be made.
Their legal documents state that the Iranian club either did not pay or flat-out refused to pay the agreed upon fee, therefore the business never got the money that was owed to Ghadiri.
Financial troubles have already dogged Mosimane's employment at Esteghlal, which is why the disagreement has garnered attention.
The Iranian club and the coach and his technical staff split up in January 2025 due to wage disputes. At the time, his management agency verified that, despite efforts to address the problem, overdue pay were unpaid.
The most recent court actions have refocused interest on the financial details of that appointment.
For the time being, the issues at hand in the Johannesburg High Court case revolve on the agent's purported contractual claim, the scope of his power, and the fulfilment of payment terms.
You shouldn't take the accusations against MT Sports or the defence as proof of misconduct. The duties under the contract between the parties will be decided by the court.
Thus, the R1.25 million commission dispute is yet another legal matter pertaining to Mosimane's short stint in Iranian football; the resolution of this matter will most certainly define who is responsible for what in relation to the parties that helped arrange Esteghlal's appointment.
