Puso Dithejane Delivers Late Chicago Fire Goal As South African Star Celebrates Important MLS Victory Alongside Robert Lewandowski
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA — 2 NOVEMBER 2026
South African footballer Puso Dithejane continued his impressive rise in Major League Soccer (MLS) after scoring a late goal for Chicago Fire in their entertaining 4-2 victory over Colorado Rapids on Saturday.
The former TS Galaxy winger made another important contribution as Chicago Fire strengthened their position ahead of the 2026 MLS Cup Playoffs, with the South African once again demonstrating his ability to make an impact even when introduced from the substitutes' bench.
Chicago Fire travelled to Dick's Sporting Goods Park knowing that a positive result would be important for maintaining their momentum heading into the final stages of the regular season.
However, the encounter was far from straightforward, as Colorado Rapids initially took the lead through Morgan Whittaker in the 22nd minute.
Chicago responded before halftime through Jonathan Bamba, who eventually completed a brace after finding the net again in the 56th minute.
Colorado refused to surrender, with Paxten Aaronson restoring parity just two minutes later to make it 2-2.
The breakthrough eventually came in the 74th minute when Polish football superstar Robert Lewandowski produced an important moment of individual brilliance to put Chicago ahead.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich striker then turned provider, setting up Dithejane for the fourth goal that sealed the victory.
Dithejane was introduced in the 87th minute, replacing Philip Zinckernagel, and wasted very little time making his presence felt.
Just a minute after entering the field, the 22-year-old found the back of the net following an assist from Lewandowski, giving Chicago a comfortable two-goal advantage.
It was another memorable moment for the South African youngster, who continues to establish himself in American football after making the move from TS Galaxy earlier this year.
His development has attracted considerable attention, particularly following his impressive performances after the 2026 FIFA World Cup break.
Dithejane has also benefited from sharing a dressing room with experienced international players such as Lewandowski, whose influence has helped him improve his finishing and movement in attacking positions.
The victory was particularly significant for Chicago Fire, who had already secured their place in the MLS Cup Playoffs two weeks earlier.
Chicago now have their attention firmly on securing a strong position in the Eastern Conference standings before the postseason begins.
For South African supporters, Dithejane's continued progress in the United States is another encouraging development, especially as the country looks towards strengthening its attacking options for future international assignments.
The former Kaizer Chiefs academy prospect is certainly making the most of his opportunity abroad.
