Bafana Bafana Star Thapelo Maseko Suffers Injury Blow Ahead of European Clash

Bafana Bafana winger Thapelo Maseko has been ruled out of FC Copenhagen’s UEFA Conference League encounter against Crvena Zvezda after suffering a hamstring injury.

The Danish club will face the Serbian side in Belgrade without the South African international, who was included among the players unavailable for the European fixture.

Maseko’s absence comes at a crucial point in his career as he continues his journey in European football. The match would have provided him with another opportunity to gain valuable continental experience and strengthen his position within Copenhagen’s squad.

However, the hamstring injury has forced him to focus on his recovery instead of preparing for the encounter.

FC Copenhagen announced a 23-man squad for the match, confirming that Maseko would not be available for selection. Midfielder Magnus Mattsson is also sidelined through injury, while Alex Král will likewise miss the fixture.

The absence of several players presents a challenge for Copenhagen’s technical team, which must adjust its plans and identify suitable replacements ahead of the important away match.

Despite these setbacks, the Danish outfit still has several experienced players available. Mohamed Elyounoussi, Andreas Cornelius, Thomas Delaney and goalkeeper Diant Ramaj are among the players included in the travelling squad.

Their availability gives the coaching staff several options as Copenhagen prepare to face the Serbian opposition.

For Maseko, the immediate priority will be recovering fully before returning to competitive action. Hamstring injuries can affect a footballer's pace, acceleration and ability to change direction, making proper rehabilitation essential.

A premature return could worsen the injury and potentially lead to a longer spell on the sidelines. The winger will therefore need to regain his fitness before he can resume playing.

Meanwhile, Crvena Zvezda will have the advantage of playing in front of their home supporters in Belgrade. Copenhagen will be looking to overcome their injury concerns and produce a strong performance despite the players missing from the squad.

Maseko’s recovery will be closely watched by South African football supporters hoping to see the Bafana Bafana winger return to action and continue developing his career in Europe.
