Sundowns Two Wins Away From FIFA World Title After Beating Al Ahli

After beating Saudi Arabian team Al Ahli 2-1 in Pretoria to win the FIFA African-Asian-Pacific Cup, Mamelodi Sundowns have taken another giant leap into the world scene.

Going to Qatar, the African champions will have a shot at the FIFA Intercontinental Cup and the chance to become the first African club to ever win a FIFA senior men's club world title after this triumph.

Sundowns will not rest till they have won the competition's first trophy. To cement their place among football's all-time greats, the Brazilians must win two more matches.

On December 12th, they will take on the victor of the FIFA Derby of the Americas, a match between Mexican club Toluca FC and the CONMEBOL winners from South America.

With a spot in the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final up for grabs, the match will be played in Qatar's Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium.

In addition to their triumph in African football, Miguel Cardoso's squad would feel even more accomplished if they made it to the final. Nevertheless, prior to focusing on the final, the Brazilians must first triumph over a potentially challenging opponent.

On December 16th, at Ahmad Bin Ali Stadium, Sundowns will play host to the FIFA Intercontinental Cup final, where they will meet Paris Saint-Germain, the defending European champions.

Sundowns would get a chance to show themselves on one of the greatest international stages for football if they met with PSG, one of the top clubs in Europe.

The South African team's expectations are heightened by the possibility of taking on the French powerhouses. As European champions, PSG will head into the match, while Sundowns will be looking to cap off an incredible tournament run.

Still, Brazil must not pass up the chance to face their semi-final rivals. The likelihood of meeting PSG can only be properly considered if they have secured another victory.

Sundowns' capacity to compete well outside of Africa was already on display when they won the African-Asian-Pacific Cup. The prospect of a first for an African club in FIFA's senior men's club competitions remains alive after their 2-1 victory over Al Ahli.

A possible Intercontinental Cup victory would be a watershed moment for South African football, drawing attention to the home game on a global stage and showcasing the development of the top clubs on the continent.

Sundowns are well-known for their frequent participation in continental tournaments, but a FIFA senior global championship would be the icing on the cake.

That historic prospect is currently separated from the Brazilians by two victories. It will be December before they face PSG in the final, so they'll have to go through that first.

With two more tough opponents to face in Qatar, Sundowns' performance will determine if they seize the chance to make history.
