Welsh rugby star Macs Page was involved in a frightening incident during the Scarlets' United Rugby Championship (URC) clash against the Stormers at DHL Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday, 24 October 2026.
The 21-year-old winger appeared to lose consciousness after his head struck the turf during a tackle by Springbok fly-half Sacha Feinberg-Mngomezulu.
Medical personnel rushed onto the field to attend to Page, who was attempting to score his second try of the match when the incident occurred. The concerning scenes left players and spectators anxiously watching as medics assessed the young rugby star.
Page was eventually helped to his feet and walked off the field, accompanied by medical staff who supported his head. He was wearing an oxygen mask as he left the pitch, highlighting the seriousness of the incident.
The injury occurred when Page was brought down close to the try line while attempting to complete his second scoring effort. His head appeared to hit the ground heavily, causing him to spill the ball forward.
Feinberg-Mngomezulu remained beside the injured player as medical personnel arrived to provide assistance. A stretcher was also brought onto the field as several medics surrounded Page.
Although the winger managed to leave the pitch on his feet, there was no immediate confirmation of the full extent of his injury or how long he might be sidelined.
The incident was particularly concerning given Page's impressive performances for the Scarlets this season.
The Welshman had already scored his fifth try of the campaign before the frightening moment, underlining the attacking threat he has posed in the opening stages of the season.
His performances have also strengthened calls for him to receive greater recognition at international level.
Page narrowly missed out on selection for Wales' 39-man autumn squad earlier in the week, despite his promising form for the Scarlets.
Scarlets director of rugby Nigel Davies had publicly backed the young winger for a call-up, suggesting that he deserved to be included among the Welsh players selected for international duty.
"Obviously he's been excellent in the first block of the season. It's great that we've got seven boys in there and a lot of people are saying we should have eight with Macs," Davies said.
The endorsement highlighted the growing confidence in Page's abilities as he continues to develop his career at the highest level of club rugby.
The winger previously featured on Wales' summer tour of Japan in 2025 but has yet to earn his first international cap.
His strong start to the current campaign had put him in contention for further opportunities with the national team, making the injury an unfortunate setback at a crucial stage of his development.
For now, attention will be focused on Page's recovery following the worrying scenes at DHL Stadium.
The incident also served as a reminder of the physical risks associated with professional rugby, particularly when players sustain heavy head impacts during tackles.
While Page's ability to walk off the field offered some reassurance, further medical assessment would be needed to determine the extent of the injury and his potential return to action.
