Ex-Kaizer Chiefs Coach Nasreddine Nabi Lands New Job at Moroccan Giants Wydad AC
Former Kaizer Chiefs head coach Nasreddine Nabi has secured his next managerial position after being appointed by Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, marking another major chapter in the Tunisian tactician’s coaching career.
The 60-year-old returns to the dugout just months after leaving Raja Athletic Club, where he had a brief spell following his departure from Amakhosi. His appointment at Wydad was confirmed on Friday, 23 October 2026, with the club handing him a contract until the end of the current season, including an option to extend the agreement.
According to reports, Nabi’s arrival comes at a crucial time for Wydad, who are looking to recover from a disappointing start to their 2026/27 Botola Pro campaign. The Casablanca-based side have collected five points from their opening four league matches, leaving them ninth in the standings and under pressure to improve their performances.
The club’s management will be hoping Nabi can bring stability, tactical organisation and renewed confidence to a team that has struggled to meet expectations in the opening weeks of the season.
Nabi is no stranger to Moroccan football. Before joining Kaizer Chiefs, he coached AS FAR Rabat, guiding the club to a second-place finish in the league and the Moroccan Throne Cup final during the 2023/24 campaign. His experience in the country could prove valuable as he prepares for another demanding assignment.
His latest appointment also represents an interesting development because Wydad and Raja are fierce rivals in Moroccan football. Nabi's move to Wydad follows his departure from Raja at the end of August, after a short spell that reportedly ended amid disagreements over recruitment and the club's sporting direction.
At Raja, he helped the team finish third in the league after overseeing four victories, two draws and one defeat in their final seven league matches of the previous campaign.
South African football supporters will remember Nabi for his time at Kaizer Chiefs, where he arrived with the responsibility of helping the Soweto giants return to the summit of domestic football.
During his tenure at Naturena, he experienced both encouraging moments and difficult periods as he attempted to rebuild the team and restore its competitive identity. His spell ended in October 2025, bringing an end to his hopes of delivering sustained success at the club.
Now, the former Amakhosi mentor faces another opportunity to demonstrate his coaching ability at one of Morocco's most recognisable clubs.
Wydad supporters will expect an immediate improvement in results, while Nabi will need to adapt quickly to the demands of his new position.
His appointment could become an important turning point for both the coach and the club as they look to revive their domestic ambitions and strengthen their position in Moroccan football.
