She has been by his side for some of the biggest moments of his career during his rise from a young unknown footballer to one of the sport’s biggest names.
But while Harry Kane’s childhood sweetheart Katie Goodland has largely remained out of the spotlight, when called upon she has nonetheless nailed red-carpet glamour with her classic style formula – wearing elegant black.
And last night’s appearance at the glittering Ballon d’Or ceremony at the London Palladium was no exception.
Katie, 33, exuded class in a black, off-the-shoulder gown as she watched her husband take football’s top individual honour ahead of French superstar Kylian Mbappe and Spanish teen sensation Lamine Yamal.
The outfit was a continuation of a sartorial tradition for Katie that stretches back more than a decade.
For while the down-to-earth personal trainer has made only a handful of red carpet appearances, Katie has worn elegant black ensembles for most of them in a choice that signals timelessness, non-conformity and power.
The trend started with her red-carpet debut in 2015, when the then 21-year-old wore a form-fitting cocktail dress when Kane was named the Professional Footballers’ Association Player of the Year.
Katie chose another black dress for the Best Fifa Football Awards in London in October 2017, which came shortly after the striker went down on one knee during a romantic getaway in the Bahamas.
The halterneck midi dress featured a sheer waist panel that Katie accessorised with open-toe sandals that appear to be another fashion go-to for her.
She stuck with the formula in 2018 – shortly after Kane and Katie announced they were expecting their second child – and in subsequent appearances.
Fast forward to 2026, and Katie’s transformation from the fresh-faced Wag who first found Kane’s popularity a ‘little crazy’ to the poised wife of England’s captain navigating fame on her own terms is complete.
Katie has more than 420,000 Instagram followers and regularly shows her support for England and Kane's German club Bayern Munich on social media.
Yesterday, she shared snaps of herself and Kane, holding hands and dressed to the nines for the prestigious ceremony, on Instagram with the caption: 'Ready to support my love at the Ballon d'Or.'
She accessorised the satin gown with a black handbag, matching heels and a glittering tennis necklace.
And it appears Katie's secret is finding the perfect black dress each time.
She did so for the world premiere of No Time to Die at London's Royal Albert Hall in 2021. While the footballer dressed to impress in a 007-inspired tuxedo, Katie channelled the quintessential Bond girl in a strapless, black satin gown.
The pair met while at school in Waltham Forest, east London, and got engaged in July 2017. They tied the knot in 2019 and have four children – two girls and two boys – together.
After Larkswood Primary, they moved on to nearby Chingford Foundation School, where David Beckham, who captained the England squad almost 60 times, had been a pupil.
They started dating in 2012 when they were aged 16 and attended the school prom together. The duo have enjoyed his rise together but Kane has previously revealed they struggled to acclimatise to his celebrity status.
Speaking to Esquire magazine in 2015, he said: 'We went to school together, so she's seen my whole career.
'Of course, she's finding it a little crazy. I think she's even been in the papers a couple of times taking the dogs out.'
The footballer also revealed that he trusts Katie, who has a degree in sports science, because he's known her so long.
He previously said: 'If I were single now and meeting people, you'd never know if they were with you for the right reasons.
'Is it the money? You'd never really know. So I'm lucky that I've got a childhood sweetheart. She always wanted to do her own thing. She went to university and worked hard.'
Harry popped the question during a romantic beach holiday in Nassau in July 2017, months after Katie gave birth to their first child, daughter Ivy.
Katie showed off her baby bump for their second child in another black ensemble when they attended the Brit Awards in 2018. She wore pregnancy well in a sparkling mini-dress with studded detailing along the shoulder, open-toe sandals and a pair of statement drop earrings.
Months after welcoming Vivienne, Katie hit the red carpet in black again, as the fitness coach accompanied Kane to the Sports Personality of the Year awards.
Although he missed out on the top prize, Kane enjoyed a night out with his then-fiancée, who looked typically stylish in a black gown with a plunging neckline and thigh-high slit.
But Katie decided to mix things up when she attended the Pride of Britain Awards at London's Grosvenor House the following year.
While sticking with her trusted black, it wasn't a gown she appeared in this time but a black jumpsuit with a sheer neck panel.
It's no surprise she chose black again for last night's ceremony as Kane paid tribute to his 'best friend' during a moving acceptance speech.
After becoming the first English player in 25 years to be crowned the world's best player, he said: 'To my wife, Kate, my best friend. We've been through ups and downs for sure. You're my biggest supporter. I actually felt like you wanted this more than me myself.
'The anxious wait for us to find out, I know it's been horrible for you, here it is – we've done it! You always want the best for me, you sacrifice yourself to help me achieve my dreams, and I know they're your dreams as well, so it wouldn't be possible without you.
'This is a trophy that we celebrate, not me. This is me and you, it's all the family, all our close-knit team, so I just want to say thank you, I love you. Can't wait to enjoy this and celebrate tonight for sure. Love you.'
The couple share two daughters, Ivy and Vivienne, and two sons, Louis and Henry.
And Kane also made sure to reference them in his acceptance speech at the Palladium ceremony.
'My kids sat home watching, it's definitely past your bedtime, especially as we're [the ceremony] a little later than we hoped,' he said. 'So to Ivy, Vivienne, Louis and Henry. You're the reason I do this.
'I don't think you'll fully maybe appreciate bringing this trophy home. I'll bring a few others home, but this one is a special one, so I can't wait to see you and celebrate with you.
'I want to set a good example being a father but also being a professional and what it means to work hard, what it means to believe in yourself. I love you very much.'
