Dundee boxing champion Lindelani ‘Sqhwaga-Man’ Sibisi will put his South African featherweight title on the line in Johannesburg on December 11 in a bout set to be broadcast live on SuperSport.

The Sibongile Boxing Gym product claimed the national title with a 10th-round knockout of the defending champion in East London last year. The upcoming fight will be his second title defence.

His first defence took place in the Eastern Cape in May, and he is now appealing to businesses and potential sponsors for financial support as he prepares for his next challenge.

From the community gym to the national stage

Sibisi’s boxing journey began at Sibongile Boxing Gym, which operates from a basement at the community hall and is frequently affected by flooding.

Despite these difficult conditions, the gym has built a proud record of producing eight South African champions.

Sibisi trains under experienced coaches Nkosinathi Thusi and Nkosinathi Hlatshwayo. He competes under Hlula Dladla Boxing Promotion and Hle Jobe Promotion, and is managed by No Doubt Management.

Boxing has also transformed his life, steering him away from the trouble he caused as a youngster.

“I grew up a bully, beating up other children every day until former amateur boxing star Sifiso Khuzwayo recruited me to boxing,” Sibisi said.

“From that day, I never fought outside the ring. Boxing gave me discipline, purpose and a new way to channel my fire.”

Today, he hopes his achievements will inspire other young people in his community to follow a positive path.

“What motivates me now is showing kids from my community that there’s a better path. I want every upcoming fighter to look at me and see all the possibilities,” he said.

A growing collection of titles

Alongside his South African featherweight title, Sibisi has held the IBF International title and won the KZN Provincial, WBF Intercontinental, WBA Pan African and ABU All Africa titles.

His collection of championship belts reflects a career that has taken him from a community boxing gym in Dundee to the international stage.

With another major title defence approaching, Sibisi is appealing to potential sponsors to help cover his preparation costs.

Businesses that support the boxer will have an opportunity to feature their logos during the December SuperSport broadcast, gaining national exposure while backing a local sporting talent.
