Bundesliga pick of the weekend sees Bremen away at Stuttgart.

Hamburger SV open matchday nine on Friday evening, welcoming a Borussia Mönchengladbach stubbornly hugging the bottom of the table.

The home side have lost their last three competitive fixtures but are unbeaten in five home meetings with Mönchengladbach.

The Foals have four points from their last two games after losing the opening six but still have the Bundesliga’s worst defence (22 goals conceded), followed by HSV (19).

Saturday afternoon will see a clash between Borussia Dortmund and soaring SV Elversberg as RB Leipzig in fourth welcome FC Augsburg in tenth, FC Bayern München visit FSV Mainz 05 in ninth, and SC Paderborn 07 in 14th host Eintracht Frankfurt in eighth.

Dortmund haven’t lost at home to a promoted team since conceding three late goals against SV Werder Bremen in August 2022. Elversberg’s haul of 13 points after eight games ranks in the top five for top-flight debutants in the era of three points for a win, but Vincent Wagner’s side have lost their last two on the road.

Leipzig boast the division’s best home record with four wins, 18 goals scored and zero conceded. They could now become the fourth team to win their first five home games of a Bundesliga season without conceding. Augsburg are one of three teams to score in every match this term, alongside Bremen and Freiburg.

Mainz 05 have won four of their last six home meetings with Bayern München, the most victories by any team over the record champions in that time. Bayern are on a 30-game unbeaten run away from home – the third-best sequence in Bundesliga history – since a 2-1 loss at Mainz in December 2024.

In the Saturday evening game, VfB Stuttgart will entertain SV Werder Bremen in fifth whose Niclas Füllkrug will be eager to extend his scoring run of seven matches in a row.

Füllkrug has the chance to become the first Bremen player ever to score in eight consecutive Bundesliga matches. Ermedin Demirović of Stuttgart is the only other player in the Bundesliga this season to score two braces, having bagged back-to-back doubles for the first time in the top flight.

Sunday will see three equally drama-packed games with point differences still narrow enough to allow for major changes in the standings.
