The road came to an end for the McCracken County on Monday night, as the First Region made its exit from the KHSAA Boy’s State Soccer Tournament with a first-round defeat to Madisonville-North Hopkins. Having taken three penalties in regulation on their way to a 3-3 draw, spot kicks would prove to be the Mustangs’ undoing by the end of the night, as they ultimately fell 5-4 in a penalty shootout.
“We didn’t defend as well as we should have, we didn’t move the ball how we should have, and we didn’t score or stop penalty kicks how we should have,” said McCracken County head coach Michael Wiersema, putting the defeat in simple terms.
