JAMIE CARRAGHER has boldly stated that Manchester United players do NOT enjoy playing alongside Bruno Fernandes.

Carragher suggests that some United team members might feel a sense of relief after Michael Carrick chose to omit his captain for the match against Bournemouth.

Fernandes, at 32, was not included in the starting lineup after he publicly criticized Carrick’s strategy following the disappointing Champions League loss to Como.

The Portuguese midfielder expressed his dissatisfaction with Manchester United’s defensive tactics and lack of pressing, contributing to the ongoing discontent at Old Trafford.

Carragher speculates that this surprising choice might actually help unite United’s struggling squad as they aim to break a disappointing seven-match winless streak.

Speaking on Sky Sports, he stated: “He is Manchester United’s finest player, that’s undeniable; he was PFA Player of the Year last season.

“Carrick needed to take a stand, which I believe we all recognize, but those who have been brought in must deliver results.

“The hope is that this could actually draw us closer as a team, because unmistakably, even though he’s the top player, many might not enjoy playing alongside him due to his constant arm-throwing at teammates.”

The former England international believes that Fernandes’ expressive frustrations on the pitch could lead his teammates to feel inadequate.

He elaborated: “It often appears he is conveying the message, ‘You’re not good enough to be playing with me,’ which is frequently evident from Fernandes when Manchester United is struggling.”

Carragher further urged United’s squad to band together in the absence of their influential captain, asserting that a unified dressing room could be the key to reversing their fortunes.

He continued: “They need to start off strong and truly enjoy playing football with each other, and if things take a turn for the worse or if someone makes a few poor passes, they should come together, support one another, and encourage one another.”

Carrick maintained that his choice to bench Fernandes was purely tactical, explaining to Sky Sports that it was based on “pure football” considerations.

However, Carragher dismissed this rationale, asserting that the United manager had little option but to discipline his captain after the public critique, adding: “Sadly for fans, most in football are poor liars, and in that role, one needs to tell untruths regrettably.”
