The manager of SLOVAN BRATISLAVA, Yaya Touré, has reached a challenging milestone with a 14th consecutive loss in the Champions League.
A heavy 4-0 defeat to LASK in Austria on Tuesday has prolonged a grim streak in the main phase of the competition that dates back to 1992.
Previously, the record was held by Marseille, with 13 losses from March 2012 to November 2020.
The current all-time record is set at 16 losses from the old European Cup, held by Jeunesse Esch of Luxembourg, who currently hold this unenviable title.
Touré, a Manchester City legend who took the helm in June, is the first African manager in the competition’s history and a past winner from his days at Barcelona in 2009.
The 43-year-old remarked: “It’s very tough, to be honest.

“They were more aggressive, and perhaps we didn’t fight hard enough, but sometimes you have to just accept it.”
Slovan has already experienced four defeats this season, with upcoming home matches against Real Betis and Shakhtar Donetsk presenting opportunities to avoid adding to their troubling history.
Two additional losses would tie them with Jeunesse, who managed to halt a streak with a 1-1 draw against Liverpool in September 1973.
Alarmingly, Slovan risks not qualifying for the next season’s competition.

Touré’s squad currently sits eight points behind leaders FC Dac in the Slovakian league.
He added: “It’s not easy, but the season is long.
“We’re competing in multiple tournaments, and at this point, we’re playing every two to three days, so fatigue has been building up among the players.”
With a celebrated playing career behind him, Touré is steadily making his way up the managerial ladder.
He previously served as an assistant manager at Olimpik Donetsk in Ukraine, Akhmat Grozny in Russia, and Standard Liege in Belgium.
The Ivorian also had a stint as an academy coach at Tottenham.
