  • 2027 CARIFTA Games are scheduled for 27–29 March in Guyana

The Grenada Athletic Association (GAA) has officially released its qualification standards for the 2027 CARIFTA Games, providing the benchmarks athletes must achieve to earn selection consideration for Grenada’s national team. The standards cover both Under-17 and Under-20 age categories across track and field events and will serve as the primary performance targets throughout the first half of the 2026–2027 athletics season.

The announcement comes as Grenadian athletics continues to build on recent successes at regional and international competitions, including 11 medals at CARIFTA 2026, 7 at ANOCES Championships and 5 at NACAC U18 & U23 Championships. The 2027 CARIFTA Games are scheduled for 27–29 March in Guyana.

Johnell Mitchell, GAA President, said the standards are intended to provide athletes with a clear pathway to national selection while maintaining Grenada’s competitiveness at the region’s premier junior athletics championship. “Our objective is not simply to send a team to CARIFTA, but to send athletes who have demonstrated that they are capable of competing at the regional level,” said Mitchell. “The standards are intended to reinforce the importance of consistent participation in recognised competitions and provide athletes with clear performance targets throughout the season. We want every athlete selected to the national team to be prepared to compete at a high level and represent Grenada well.”

According to the qualification policy, all performances must be achieved between 1 October 2026 and 15 March 2027 and must be recorded at GAA-recognised competitions. Additionally, performances in the 100 metres, 200 metres, long jump, triple jump, 100-metre hurdles and 110-metre hurdles must be wind legal to be considered for qualification.

With the qualification window now open, attention will turn to the upcoming GAA competition calendar as athletes begin their pursuit of CARIFTA selection. The association has also announced plans to introduce a new All-Comers Championship in June 2027 to provide additional competition opportunities for athletes.
