Uganda’s national boxing team, the Uganda Bombers, has won four gold medals, one silver and eight bronze medals at the 2026 African Elite Boxing Championships, according to the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF).
The federation announced the medal tally in a social media update highlighting the performances of Ugandan boxers in the championship finals.
Among the gold medallists was Nagawa Vanessa, who defeated Lesotho’s Rapelang Maselela by a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) victory in the women’s 57kg final.
Nsubuga Samuel also claimed gold after defeating Rwanda’s Ntabanganyimana Valentin by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the 55kg final.
Mulungi Kassim secured another gold medal for Uganda after beating Angola’s Daniel Makaya in his final.
The federation listed the three boxers among Uganda’s gold medallists at the continental competition, although its update did not provide the names of the fourth gold medallist or all the athletes who won bronze.
The Bombers’ overall haul of four gold, one silver and eight bronze medals reflects Uganda’s presence among the competing nations at the African Elite Boxing Championships.
However, the medal tally also follows a controversial result involving Aziz Abdul, popularly known as Ringo, who was disqualified in the men’s 90kg final against Egypt’s Mohamed Hossen for an illegal blow. The Uganda Boxing Federation had initially reported Abdul’s silver-medal finish before announcing the disqualification.
The 2026 African Elite Boxing Championships brought together elite boxers from across the continent to compete for continental titles.
Uganda’s four gold medals provided the team with notable results across the tournament, with Nagawa, Nsubuga and Kassim among the athletes who secured victories in their respective finals.
