Toto Wolff's nine-year-old son, Jack, walked away without serious injury following a dramatic multi-kart collision on Friday. The incident took place during the IAME Warriors Final. Jack secured his maiden championship last month by winning the IAME Series Italy title in the X30 Under-10 category and races predominantly in Europe.
His father, Toto, has been with Mercedes since 2013 and currently serves as team principal, CEO and is a 33.3% owner of the franchise.
The Silver Arrows won a record eight consecutive Constructors' Championships from 2014 to 2021 under his stewardship. Jack's mother, Susie, is a former driver and is currently the managing director of F1 Academy.
But they would both have been given a severe fright on Friday, watching their son in action. The nine-year-old was competing in Qualifying Heat 3 of the X30 Mini category at the Leopard Circuit in Viterbo, Italy.
During the final lap of the heat, Jack, driving No. 25, was battling for the lead with Nahyl Elgahoudi. As the pair made contact, their wheels interlocked and Elgahoudi's kart ramped violently up and over the front nose of Jack's machine, teetering on two wheels but avoiding a flip.
Jack was then pitched into a spin. With nowhere to go, trailing driver Dimitar Uzunov collided with the stranded kart, launching airborne directly over the cockpit and clipping Jack's shoulder.
Reports suggest Jack received treatment after the ordeal but walked away fine. He climbed out of the kart under his own power and was eager to get back into the paddock.
The commentator remarked during the crash: "Look at that straight over the top there went... went Uzunov. How Elgahoudi did not flip there, I do not know... and Wolff as well, taking a big hit to the shoulder."
Eye-opening crash in karting involving Toto Wolff's son, Jack, today. He's the one the kart goes over...Thankfully, he's fine, although he did need some minor treatment after walking away. He's adamant he's racing again tomorrow, so he's showing some early tenacity... #F1 https://t.co/ZBaTyIjfrD

Speaking at a karting event this summer, Toto discussed his son's ambition: "This is where it all starts. Formula 1 is basically this on steroids. Same kind of racing and watching the kids is just a super experience.
"It's important to find the right balance because obviously as a parent you're emotionally involved and it's completely normal. But he's nine years old, there are so many small kids and you need to strike the balance right and we try. Sometimes we get it wrong.
"You have difficult moments and he had some difficult moments today and in the end it comes all together, and every little failure is a learning for the future. Just give them time. They're so small, let them enjoy the karting and that's the most important."
