Cricket Cranes make light work of Gambia for third win in Abuja
  • ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers – Abuja, Nigeria
  • Friday Result: Uganda 28/0 beat Gambia 27 all out by 10 wickets
  • Saturday Fixture: Uganda vs Mozambique – 11:30 a.m., EAT

Uganda’s Cricket Cranes remain on course to qualify for the Africa T20 finals after picking up a comprehensive 10-wicket win against Gambia.

Gambia ranked 95th in the World and holds the record for the highest T20 score conceded in 2024 against Zimbabwe; they needed a lot of inspiration to take down 21st-ranked Uganda.

The only thing that went Gambia’s way on the day was the toss. They chose to bat first, but in the first over they lost two wickets to the medium pace of Captain Riazat Ali Shah (3/11) and, together with new ball partner Enock Kasaija (3/14), ripped through the batting lineup.

Alpesh Ramjani (2/2) and Joseph Baguma (0/1) completed the formalities to dismiss Gambia for just 27 inside 9 Overs.

The run chase was a hit in the nets for Robinson Obuya, who tonked 20 off six balls, his first runs in the tournament, which will also give him some confidence ahead of the next game. His partner, Anas Baig, in his first game of the tournament, managed just six in a comprehensive 10-wicket win for Uganda.

The Cricket Cranes wrapped up the game inside two overs, making it a match of just 13 overs in a show of might against the minnows.

The Cricket Cranes picked up their third win of the tournament, and a win tomorrow against Mozambique should be enough to secure a place at the Africa finals next year.
