Bayern Munich will be without two key players for their UEFA Champions League encounter against Arsenal on Wednesday evening, with Joshua Kimmich ruled out due to a family bereavement and Michael Olise unavailable through suspension.
The German champions confirmed ahead of the match that Kimmich would not be part of the squad as he deals with a personal tragedy.
In a statement, the club said:
"Due to a death in his immediate family, Joshua Kimmich is not in the squad today for the match against Arsenal London. On behalf of the family, we ask that his privacy and grief be respected, and that further inquiries and reporting be refrained from. In deep sympathy, the entire FC Bayern stands by Joshua Kimmich's side."
The absence of the influential midfielder is a significant blow for Bayern as they prepare for a crucial European test against the Premier League side.
Kimmich's withdrawal comes on top of another setback for the Bavarians, with winger Michael Olise also unavailable. The French attacker serves a suspension after receiving a red card in Bayern's previous Champions League outing.
Olise has been one of Bayern's standout performers this season, contributing goals and creativity from wide areas, and his absence further limits the options available to head coach Vincent Kompany.
