Back
The title race is gathering heat, and SC Villa's unbeaten march faces perhaps its most revealing examination yet.
The clash with Bul could hardly have come at a better time for Zeljko Kovacevic's table-topping Jogoos, who are thirsty for a record-setting 18th league diadem, remain unbeaten and are firing on all cylinders.
But Njeru is no place for complacency. Alex Isabirye's Bul, displaced from the summit by Villa last week, will seek to reclaim top spot with victory at the Fufa Technical Centre.
Their 1-1 draw against Entebbe UPPC left them third on 20 points, a point behind Villa, although they have played one game fewer. With Nec also breathing down their necks, the stakes are high and neither side can afford to blink.
Close call
Bul's failure to kill off UPPC offers both warning and instruction. Alex Kitata's 42nd-minute strike, following Simon Achidi's delivery, appeared sufficient until Reich Kokolo's stoppage-time header punished their defensive lapse.
Isabirye's men must therefore marry their trademark grit with greater ruthlessness. The midfield must protect transitions and prevent Villa from dictating possession, while Bul defenders and goalkeeper Brady Wokorach, formerly at Villa, must remain switched on until the final whistle. Against a side adept at exploiting hesitation, concentration is key.
Villa arrive buoyed by a 2-1 victory over Lugazi, having struck through Frank Sebuufu in the fourth minute and John Asiimwe in the 56th before conceding late.
The Jogoos must also guard against the late defensive slackness that allowed Livingstone Mulondo to pull one back. Against Bul, such openings could carry a heavier price.
Tactical battle
Tactically, this is a collision of contrasting convictions. Kovacevic's possession-oriented, high-pressing approach, with counterattacking incision, will test Bul's compactness and ability to spring forward.
Isabirye's gritty, counterattacking philosophy, meanwhile, could target the spaces behind Villa's advanced lines. Winning second balls, managing transitions and converting set-pieces may prove decisive in a contest where territorial dominance need not guarantee victory.
The jury remains out on both sides' title credentials. Villa have consistency and momentum; Bul possess resilience and a home-ground opportunity to make a statement. Their previous performances suggest neither will surrender easily, making this a compelling litmus test rather than a coronation.
Nec eye summit
At Lugogo, Badru Kaddu's Nec, second on 20 points, also harbour summit ambitions. They must overcome wobbling UPDF, 13th with eight points, and hope neither Villa nor Bul wins.
Nec had to dig deep against Blacks Power, with Fahad Aziz Bayo's 44th-minute header separating the sides before Hakim Wandera's late dismissal left them defending with 10 men. That hard-earned 1-0 victory underlined their staying power, but UPDF's resistance cannot be taken lightly.
At Kamwokya, Police, sixth on 14 points, host 10th-placed Kitara, who have 11 points but games in hand. Police need consistency after an uneven start, while Kitara's unbeaten record in their five league outings makes them dangerous outsiders.
