Chelsea star trademarks iconic celebration in surprise LinkedIn update
Xabi Alonso says Reece James will not be rushed back from injury

Chelsea star Joao Pedro has revealed that he has trademarked his goal celebration.

The Brazil international covers his face with the palm of his hand and pulls a ‘thumbs down’ pose with the other to mark his goals.

The striker has been in good form for his club this term, notching five strikes in six Premier League games so far this season.

His performances have helped Chelsea into fourth in the table in Xabi Alonso’s first season in charge at Stamford Bridge, and Joao Pedro has solidified himself as the Spaniard’s first-choice centre-forward.

The 25-year-old sports the No9 shirt for the Blues, and he has also decided to trademark ‘JP9’ as his own too.

The former Watford and Brighton forward took to business social media platforn LinkedIn to issue the update.

“Having the number 9 shirt at Chelsea means a lot to me, but I’ve always wanted JP9 to represent something beyond football,” he wrote.

“After conversations with [headphone company] Beats about my Brazilian heritage and my vision for celebrating JP9, they designed a logo that reflects who I am, both on and off the pitch.

“That logo now features on my custom Beats headphones, bringing the JP9 identity to life beyond football. From there, I sat down with my team to look at how we could protect that identity, including my goal celebration.I have trademarked both JP9 and my celebration.

|For me, it’s about building something that has meaning beyond the game and creating an identity that I can continue to develop throughout my career.

“Football is a huge part of who I am, but so are my roots, my interests and the things that make me different.

“I’m excited to explore how JP9 can take shape across different products and projects in the future, bringing more of my personality and interests into what I do beyond the pitch.

“This is another step towards building something of my own, with the ambition to create an identity that grows with me throughout my career and beyond football.”
