Bruno Fernandes has risked a major backlash as a result of his social media activity following Manchester United's defeat at the hands of Bournemouth. They were comfortably beaten by the Cherries at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon, piling even more pressure on under-fire manager Michael Carrick, who is dangerously close to being sacked just five months after taking the job on a permanent basis.
Fernandes was dropped to the bench for the Bournemouth game, having publicly questioned Carrick's tactics after the midweek Champions League defeat to Como.
After being left as an unused substitute, the Portuguese midfielder made his feelings clear by liking a cryptic post on Instagram, which read: "Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care."
It comes at a time when United's players are being widely blamed for their current plight, with supporters turning on them after the final whistle against Bournemouth.
They chanted Carrick's name as he applauded Old Trafford before walking down the tunnel, at which point they collectively booed the players, especially Fernandes.
The midfielder was condemned for his comments after the Como game, with Wayne Rooney urging him to take responsibility for his own shortcomings and describing the United squad as "babies".
He said: "You can say whether Bruno was right or wrong in what he said but you have to take responsibility on the pitch. You have to take responsibility as a group of players.
"These players, they’re selfish. They don’t care about their team-mates, don’t care about the manager, the staff or the fans. They care about themselves.
"If they’re not getting what’s right for them, they’re like babies and just throw their toys out of the pram and go and deflect the blame on to anyone else but themselves."
Meanwhile, after the Bournemouth loss, Gary Neville accused United's players of downing tools and questioned their commitment to the club.
Speaking on Sky Sports, he said: "A few of them aren't that professional. I live in Manchester. Some of them aren't that professional, so I've got no time for them.
"There's a few of them that don't go to bed at the right time, don't eat the right things, don't think about Manchester United every single minute of every day, and aren't living and breathing this football club as they should be and as professionals should."
