Mikel Arteta has revealed that the Arsenal medical staff are "a bit concerned" about an injury sustained by Bukayo Saka during their 2-2 Champions League draw with Bayern Munich. The England international managed only 10 minutes before collapsing to the turf in discomfort after executing what appeared to be a straightforward pass, his arm raised immediately to signal he required medical attention.

The 25-year-old was also seen grasping at his thigh as medical personnel hurried onto the pitch to attend to him. Saka's game ended at that moment as he was substituted by Eberechi Eze for the rest of the contest.

Following the match, which finished 2-2 courtesy of strikes from Eberechi Eze, Alphonso Davies, Harry Kane and Declan Rice, Arteta provided an update on Saka's situation.

He said: "They are a bit concerned. A player who has to come off with a really sharp pain is never good news, but we'll have to wait and see."

Any prolonged spell on the sidelines would be a significant setback for the reigning Premier League champions, given Saka's influence on the club.

However, when combined with existing injuries across Arteta's first-team squad, it could become a recipe for disaster. Christos Tzolis is currently unavailable due to a hamstring problem picked up while on international duty with Greece in the Nations League, leaving Noni Madueke and Eze as the sole genuine wide players Arsenal can call upon.

Discussing the potential ramifications of Saka's absence, Gunners legend Martin Keown has emphasised the difficulties Arsenal may face.

Speaking on TNT Sports, he said: "Well it's worrying because Tzolis on the other wing was injured as well. I think he's trying to dig this one out.

"Just trying to scoop it and then he goes down obviously in a lot of pain. It looks like his thigh muscle so that can be a number of weeks and they'll be scanning him tomorrow, early hours of tonight probably trying to get him fit again.

"It's a blow though because you don't want to keep losing quality players and he started the game really but again it's the strength in depth to have Eze and playing as he did but you want this man fit.

"He's been magnificent for the club the last four or five years."

Such a potential blow comes during what could prove a pivotal spell for Arsenal, who may face Everton this weekend without several crucial players.

Particularly as William Saliba remains unavailable following a back complaint which emerged during this summer's World Cup.
