Liverpool loan star Ronald Araujo has been discussing his position at right-back for the Reds so far, and has opened up on a potential move to center-back later this season

Ronald Araujo has admitted that he is more comfortable as a center-back than playing at right-back, but the Liverpool loanee believes the switch in position will help him in the long term.

It follows an impressive run in the team for the Uruguayan international, who has continued to show his quality at important times during the season for the Reds so far. While Liverpool has had some issues at right-back in the past year, with injuries and form impacting both Jeremie Frimpong and Conor Bradley, the arrival of Araujo has brought a different dimension to the team.

Not only is there balance across the backline, with the Barcelona loanee more than capable of locking down a flank defensively, but he has added a determination that has won the fans over in double quick time.

Nothing could possibly sum up Araujo's start to life on Merseyside better than his goal against Villarreal in midweek. While a cross from Rio Ngumoha appeared to be a lost cause, the defender didn't give up, chasing down the ball and heading it in beyond an unsuspecting defender and goalkeeper.

All the momentum from committing to scoring the goal took the star into the Anfield crowd, as he celebrated drawing the team level just on the brink of half-time, as he was swarmed by fans once again.

It's been a dream start for Araujo, who has both solved a problem position for Liverpool while winning over a fanbase that has been crying out for a player with his kind of personality. While right-back isn't his natural place on the pitch, it's a switch that he believes can help him progress in the future.

Speaking to El Larguero after the win over Villarreal, he said: "It's not a different position for me, it's true that I feel comfortable playing center-back, but this position will help me a lot in the future."

While it shows that the 27-year-old is willing to fill in at right-back, it certainly suggests that he wants to move back to center-back at some point in the future, considering that it is his more comfortable position.

It's unclear whether an opportunity in his more natural position will become available this season, with Virgil van Dijk and Jeremy Jacquet holding the roles well so far, while there will be Giovanni Leoni and Joe Gomez in reserve there if required. That is, without even considering the issues at right-back that he continues to fill for.

While the long-term future could change that, should Liverpool decide to sign the defender, the short-term will be spent enjoying what he has to offer the club.

It's a switch that Araujo has claimed that he needed, as he added: "Yes, I definitely needed that change. I was very clear about it when the season ended, and we went to the World Cup; it was a decision I was very sure of.

"I spoke with the club [Barcelona], with Deco, with the manager, and they made it very easy for me. They helped me a lot. I think I'm finding what I needed here, which was to play, to feel important, and to show my football."

Araujo will certainly be feeling important and loved from his early weeks with the club, something Liverpool fans will want to see continued for the rest of the season, and perhaps even beyond.
