Cricket Cranes labour past Lesotho for second win at T20 World Cup Qualifiers
  • ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers
  • Wednesday Result: Uganda 89/5 beat Lesotho 87 all out by 5 wickets
  • Friday Fixture: Uganda vs. Gambia – 15:30, EAT

Uganda’s Cricket Cranes picked up their second win at the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers in Abuja. It might not have been pretty, but they got the job done. In a low-scoring game, Lesotho won the toss and elected to bowl first.

The Cricket Cranes made one change, with Juma Miyaji rested for Pius Oloka.

Lesotho struggled to challenge Uganda’s bowling, with Kenneth Waiswa (4/17) taking the best figures. Joseph Baguma (2/12) and Pius Oloka, on his first competitive debut for the Cricket Cranes, picked up 1/14 in his four overs, which came in handy as Lesotho finished on 87 all out inside 20 overs.

In the run chase, the Cricket Cranes started on the back, losing Robinson Obuya off the first ball. Still, Riazat Ali Shah (26) and Raghav Dhawan (10) tried to steady the ship till Lesotho’s captain Tsepo Chaona picked up both batters to leave Uganda in a spot of bother.

There was no more danger despite Kenneth Waiswa and Gerald Olipa coming and going. The experience of Alpesh Ramjani and Sumeet Verma took care of the result.

Uganda picked up the win inside 13 overs to take the top spot at the qualifiers.

The Cricket Cranes will be back in action on Friday against The Gambia.
