Chelsea target Alex Scott is a rarity in being linked with all of the Premier League’s so-called ‘big six’ and “would be good in any team”, according to Gus Poyet.
Former Chelsea midfielder Poyet is a big fan of Bournemouth star Scott, who was linked at one time or another with all of Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Liverpool and both Manchester clubs this summer.
Scott is currently out injured and contract talks with Bournemouth are at deadlock, with the England international having turned down offers of a new deal.
Chelsea remain interested in the Guernsey-born 23-year-old, who Bournemouth say they are willing to sell in January for around £100million if they are looking likely at that point to stave off Premier League relegation.
Reminded that all of the so-called ‘big six’ have been linked with Scott since the start of the summer — something which happens to very few players — Poyet said: “Yeah, true. He is a good player; top.”
Poyet, speaking to Standard Sport in conjunction with Gambling.com, continued: “I think he would be good in any team. But it will depend on the players, on how many you have available in every position.
“From what I read, [Chelsea manager] Xabi Alonso does not want a big squad, so you don’t want to add just to have another body. It will depend on the quantity.”
In central midfield, Chelsea have Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and summer signings Jordan Henderson and Valentin Barco to call upon, but captain Reece James is out injured as he recovers from knee surgery and is not expected back until mid-January.
