Uganda Cranes Name 30-Man Squad for Botswana AFCON 2027 Qualifiers as Aucho Prepares for Farewell

Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put has named a 30-man squad for the upcoming TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifiers against Botswana, with captain Khalid Aucho set for a farewell appearance on home soil following his retirement from international football.

Uganda will host Botswana at Hoima City Stadium on Saturday, November 14, 2026, with kick-off scheduled for 7:00 PM. The match will give fans an opportunity to celebrate Aucho's contribution to the national team as he prepares to bring his international career to a close.

Aucho announced his retirement on October 12, 2026, ending a 13-year international career during which he earned 77 caps and captained the Uganda Cranes.

The experienced midfielder has been included in Put's squad for the November fixture, giving him an opportunity to bid farewell to Ugandan supporters in front of the home crowd. The return leg against Botswana will be played in Botswana, according to the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA).

Put's 30-man selection features four goalkeepers, 11 defenders, six midfielders and nine forwards, with players representing clubs across Africa, Europe and the Americas.

The goalkeepers named are Denis Onyango of Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa, Kingdom Osayi of Assyriska FF in Sweden, David Lukwago of SC Villa in Uganda and David Udoh Akpan of Mosta FC in Malta.

The defensive department comprises Toby Sibbick of Burton Albion FC, Jonathan Odongo of Entebbe UPPC FC, Rogers Torach of CS Constantine, Aziizi Kayondo of FC Slovan Liberec, Kenneth Semakula of Al Ittihad Alexandria Club, Nathan Asiimwe of Salford City FC, Hilary Mukundane of Vipers SC, Gavin Kizito of Nairobi United FC, Majub Toto of Atlanta United FC, Herbert Achayi of KCCA FC and Herbert Bockhorn of FC Magdeburg.

In midfield, Put has selected Baba Alhassan of Mardin 1969 Spor, Bobosi Byaruhanga of Oakland Roots SC, Allan Oyirwoth of Dunfermline FC, Joseph Seremba of Nairobi United FC, Khalid Aucho of Sidama Bunna and Abdoulaye Sissako of St. Truidense V.V.

The forward line features Allan Okello of AS FAR, James Bogere of AGF, Travis Mutyaba of CS Sfaxien, Kelvin Boateng of FK Austria Wien, Rogers Mato of Hearts FC, Arnold Vula of K. Beerschot V.A., Sadam Masereka of Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, Denis Omedi of Gor Mahia FC and Frank Ssebufu of SC Villa.

The home fixture carries added significance because of Aucho's impending farewell. His 13 years of service, 77 international appearances and leadership as captain have made him an important figure in the national team, and the November match will give supporters an opportunity to recognise his contribution.

FUFA has set ticket prices at UGX 20,000 for Ordinary Lower, UGX 30,000 for Ordinary Upper and UGX 150,000 for VIP. Tickets will be available exclusively online.

The Uganda Cranes will face Botswana in Hoima before travelling to Botswana for the return fixture as the teams continue their AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign.
