Bahrain's two men's doubles pairs advanced to the round of 32 at the 29th ITTF-ATTU Asian Table Tennis Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, on Wednesday, following straight-game victories over Sri Lankan and Turkmen opponents.
Salman Abuhamda and Ali Saleh defeated Sri Lanka's Chameera Ginige and Nuwantha Kahawaththa 3-0 (11-8, 11-6, 11-9), while Rashed Sanad and Mohamed Saleh overcame Turkmenistan's Dortguly Allanazarov and Mukam Artykov 3-0 (11-8, 11-3, 11-3).
Both pairs return to action on Thursday at Olympic Town, with Abuhamda and Ali Saleh facing Malaysia's Wong Qi Shen and Javen Choong at 11.30am Bahrain time.
Sanad and Mohamed Saleh meet South Korea's Kim Minhyeok and Park Gyuhyeon at noon, with places in the last 16 at stake.
Meanwhile, Ali Saleh was eliminated in the men's singles round of 128 on Wednesday following a narrow 3-2 defeat to Turkmenistan's Ylyas Allanazarov.
The Bahraini recovered from two games down to force a decider but eventually lost the fifth game 12-10.
Mohamed Saleh also exited the singles competition on Tuesday, losing 3-2 to the Philippines' John Russel Misal.
Sanad and Abuhamda progressed to the round of 64 after winning their opening singles matches that day.
Sanad defeated Thailand's Nawin Mekamporn 3-1 and will next face South Korea's Kang Dongsoo, while Abuhamda beat Saudi Arabia's Salem Alsuwailem 3-0 to set up a meeting with Singapore's Clarence Chew.
Bahrain, coached by Ammar Reza, had earlier exited the men's team competition after defeating Kyrgyzstan 3-0 before losing by the same score to Singapore.
