Chelsea secured a 2-0 victory against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium on Saturday, October 17, during the seventh round of the Premier League season, with Portuguese winger Pedro Neto scoring both goals to lift the Blues to fourth place in the standings.
The win marks Chelsea’s second victory following a 5-1 result against Bournemouth, bringing their points total to 13 after seven matches, three ahead of Everton. Everton, meanwhile, suffered their first defeat of the domestic campaign.
The scoreline remained level at halftime despite active attacking sequences from both sides. Everton created early danger when French forward Thierno Barry forced a save with a header in the 27th minute, followed immediately by Jack Grealish testing Chelsea goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez with a bouncing volley under the crossbar in the 30th minute.
Chelsea also came close before the interval. Moises Caicedo struck the crossbar with a vollied effort in the 40th minute, while a header from Maxence Lacroix was cleared off the goal line by Harrison Armstrong.
Pedro Neto broke the deadlock merely 43 seconds into the second half. Morgan Rogers initiated an attacking sequence that culminated in a cross from Jorrel Hato, allowing Neto to finish past the Everton defense. The opening goal set the tone for a dominant second-half display from the visitors.
As the match approached stoppage time, Neto secured his brace in the 90th minute. He capitalized on a loose ball after a free-kick taken by Jordan Henderson was blocked by the defensive wall, sealing the 2-0 final score.
The victory came at a physical cost for Chelsea when goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez suffered a heavy collision with Everton central defender Jarrad Branthwaite during a 66th-minute set-piece scramble. The Argentine international received medical attention on the pitch for roughly ten minutes before leaving on a stretcher, with Mike Penders entering the match as his replacement.
Despite the forced substitution, Chelsea preserved their advantage and secured their first Premier League clean sheet since January 17, ending a 22-match run without shutting out an opponent in domestic competition.
Match statistics highlighted Chelsea’s territorial pressure, with the visitors registering 18 total shots to Everton’s six, including seven efforts on target compared to five for the hosts. Possession remained relatively even at 52.8 percent for Chelsea and 47.2 percent for Everton, while Chelsea earned seven corners to Everton’s five.
Chelsea will return to action on October 24, facing Tottenham in their next Premier League fixture.
