LEBRON JAMES was booed by his own fans just minutes into his Philadelphia 76ers home debut before inspiring a stunning comeback win.
The NBA legend, 41, joined the Sixers ahead of the new season, adding another superstar to the locker room.
James’ first home appearance almost turned into a nightmare against his former team, the Cleveland Cavaliers.
The Sixers found themselves a staggering 27 points behind in the second quarter, leaving supporters inside the Xfinity Mobile Arena furious.
Boos rang out before half-time as the new-look side struggled to keep pace with Cleveland.
The Cavaliers’ advantage eventually reached 29 points, but the Sixers refused to surrender and produced an incredible second-half turnaround to stun their opponents 114-106.
It was the biggest comeback of James’ illustrious career and Philadelphia’s biggest comeback of the modern era.
James finished with 17 points, 10 rebounds and five assists.
The four-time NBA champion was delighted by the dramatic turnaround, thanking the fans for letting their frustrations be heard.
He said: “It was everything that I dreamed of and more.
“The boos, that was amazing. We deserved it. And then we got the cheers and almost blew the roof off this thing tonight in a good way.
“So that was a hell of a night.”
But the comeback was not the only reason James found himself in the headlines this week.
The NBA superstar was also branded a “total disgrace” by US President Donald Trump after footage emerged of him appearing to practise a golf swing and his jump shot during the national anthem.
Trump, who has repeatedly clashed with the basketball icon over the years, launched a furious attack on Truth Social on Thursday.
The President wrote: “While listening to our National Anthem, LeBron James disrespects our Country! I said right from the beginning that he’s no good, a TOTAL DISGRACE.
“LeBron James should apologize to all of those Great American Warriors and Heroes who died for the American Flag, and all that our Country stands for!”
The latest outburst is another chapter in the long-running war of words between the pair.
Their feud escalated in 2017 after Trump withdrew an invitation for the Golden State Warriors to visit the White House following their NBA championship.
James leapt to the defence of his friend Stephen Curry, firing back at Trump on social media.
Trump later mocked James following a 2018 interview in which the basketball star accused him of using sport to divide Americans.
The president also took aim at James’ intelligence, prompting another furious exchange between the two.
Their political differences have continued to fuel the rivalry, with Trump criticising James’ stance on transgender athletes in 2022.
Now, with the president’s latest attack arriving just days into the NBA season, James has found himself back in the political spotlight.
