Philadelphia 76ers forward LeBron James became the first player in NBA history to amass 16,000 career field goals when he made a layup early in the second quarter of his team's road game against the Detroit Pistons on Wednesday.
Entering the evening, James needed to make two shots to hit the 16,000 mark. He got it done early on and gave the 76ers a 33-23 lead as well.
James surpassed Basketball Hall of Famer and NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for the most made field goals all time last season when the then-Los Angeles Laker hit a jumper in the first quarter of his team's 120-113 loss to the Denver Nuggets on March 5.
Both James and Abdul-Jabbar (15,837 made field goals) are well above the rest of the NBA field, with the next-closet player, Karl Malone, at 13,528 made field goals.
