A TALENTED troupe of Fusion Rhythmic Gymnasts competed at the National Championships in Cape Town recently, achieving excellent results and standing out among competitors across the country.
Club leader and head coach, Jess Odendaal judged at the event alongside fellow Fusion Rhythmic Gymnastics club members, Amy Dickin and Teegan Gezane.
“These girls achieved excellent results in their respective levels and age groups. Cassandra Pretorius, level nine in the over 15 age group, placed third for clubs. Semuhle Masango, level five in the under 14 group, placed second for hoop, second for clubs and second overall, while Amahle Cele, level four in the under 11 group, placed third in ball out of 49 gymnasts,” said Odendaal.
Another of the club’s gymnasts, Mila van der Merwe, level four, placed first for free dance, first for rope, first for ball and first overall, making a clean sweep in the under 14 group.
Cassandra, the club’s highest level gymnast, said the most challenging part about the sport is moving on from mistakes and moving onto the next skill. She said competing, despite how nerve-racking it can be, is her favourite thing about the sport.
