Bul dislodged SC Villa to return to the top of the Startimes Uganda Premier League with a 2-1 win at the Fufa Technical Center in Njeru as match-day 10 kicked off with three games on Tuesday evening.
The win was the second against a direct title rival in a space of two weeks after edging Nec 2-1 at the same venue to underline their title intentions.
The result was secured courtesy of a dominant first half display capped by goals from Alex Kitatta and Derrick Byabachwezi.
The first goal arrived on 25 minutes when Swabir Mpasa weaved through the Villa defence before cutting the ball back for Kitatta to score his second goal in as many games
Bul then doubled their lead when Derrick Byabachwezi ran onto goalkeeper Brady Wokorach's goal kick to shoot low across David Lukwago's goal from a tight angle on 36 minutes.
Villa pulled a goal back midway through the second half when a Tony Asiku shot slipped through Wokorach's hands but they could not find an equalizer despite some late pressure.
The loss was the first for Villa this season and dropped them to third with 21 points two behind the leaders.
The result meanwhile moved Bul to 23 points from nine games and are now level with Nec who picked a third consecutive win following a 1-0 victory over UPDF at the Phillip Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Striker Fahad Bayo lashed home the winner three minutes after the break after latching onto a through ball from substitute Enrique Lubwama.
The playmaker has been a surprise exclusion from the starting lineup by coach Badru Kaddu in recent games despite a bright start after making the switch from UPDF at the end of last season.
Kaddu had again opted for safety opting for holding midfielders Daniel Shabene and Tony Atukanda alongside Allan Mugalu as they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities.
But it is now three straight wins for the Diehards after the defeat to Bul two weeks ago.
UPDF on the other hand suffered a fourth consecutive defeat to cap a miserable last couple of weeks that included being asked to replay their abandoned game against KCCA at Lugogo that was caused by of floodlight failure.
In Kamwokya, Gaddafi Wahab’s 10th minute strike for Kitara was cancelled out by Bedia Ikamba’s scrambled effort for Police as the two teams played out a 1-all draw.
