Jiri Lehecka Defeats Jerome Kym at Swiss Indoors

Jérôme Kym reached the quarterfinals of the Swiss Indoors in Basel, where he was defeated in straight sets by Czech player Jiri Lehecka with a score of 6-4, 6-2 on Friday. Following a late-night victory over top seed Ben Shelton at 0:40 a.m., Kym fell short against Lehecka, missing out on his first ATP-level semifinal, as reported by Blick.

Swiss Indoors quarterfinal contrast

The match began with Kym holding his opening service games comfortably and earning a break chance for a 3-1 lead in the first set. Lehecka responded immediately by converting his first and only break point of the set. Kym missed another opportunity to break back late in the opening frame before Lehecka closed it out at 6-4.

In the second set, Lehecka secured a break in the fifth game and added a second break at 4-2 to seal the match. With the victory, Lehecka advanced to the semifinals in Basel to face either German player Jan-Lennard Struff or Portugal’s Nuno Borges.

Career milestone for Kym

Despite the quarterfinal exit, the tournament marks a career breakthrough for the 23-year-old Swiss player. Reaching the last eight at an ATP 500 event is a personal best for Kym, who previously reached the third round of the US Open. The result lifts him into the top 170 of the ATP world rankings starting Monday, surpassing his previous tour-level milestones.

Rune falls against Vacherot

Holger Rune exited the Swiss Indoors quarterfinals after a 3-6, 6-3, 3-6 defeat to Monaco’s Valentin Vacherot. The former world number four had recorded his first tour-level wins since returning from a long layoff caused by a torn left achilles tendon that sidelined him for nearly a year.

Fils retires due to back injury

In the second quarterfinal, French second seed Arthur Fils retired from his match against American Taylor Fritz while trailing 2-6, 0-2 in the second set. According to Eurosport, the retirement stemmed from back problems, following an earlier stress fracture in his back sustained at the French Open in May 2025. Fritz advances to face Vacherot in the semifinals.
