Nigeria’s Bawa and Lawrence Set for Netherlands Test in Dakar 2026 Quarters

Nigeria’s Pamela Bawa and Joy Lawrence face the Netherlands in the women’s beach volleyball quarter-finals at the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games on November 3, having progressed from the Round of 16.

The Nigerian duo secured their place in the last eight with a straight-sets victory over Thailand’s Ainthira Ninsonthi and Phatthanan Wangnouingwaeng on November 2, winning 21-16, 21-13.

Victory in the quarter-final would send Bawa and Lawrence into the semi-finals, which are also being played later on November 3. Nigeria’s potential opponents in the final four are Mexico or China.

Elsewhere in the Round of 16, Mexico defeated host nation Senegal 2-0, while China overcame Madagascar by the same scoreline. Greece also won 2-0 against Canada, and Switzerland eliminated France.

The other quarter-final ties are Mexico against China, Argentina versus Italy, and Greece against Switzerland.

Bawa and Lawrence had previously beaten Egypt’s Marwa Mamdouh Salem Saleh and Karma Badawy in a Pool D contest at Saly Beach West. Their group-stage defeats came against Japan and Italy.

The women’s beach volleyball gold-medal match and the other medal contests will take place on Wednesday, November 4.
