Tanzanian giants Young Africans have parted ways with South African coach Manqoba Mngqithi with immediate effect after just three months in charge.

Also known as Yanga, the club have endured a difficult spell of late, with Saturday’s draw against TRA United leaving them five points behind Simba SC, coached by former Mamelodi Sundowns mentor Steve Barker.

Mngqithi enjoyed a promising start to life in Tanzania, winning the Tanzanian Community Shield and guiding Young Africans into the CAF Champions League group stage.

However, the team’s recent run of form appears to have put his position under pressure, ultimately bringing his short spell at the club to an end.

MnGqithi sacked as Yanga coach

The 55-year-old took charge of Young Africans in July 2026 after signing a two-year contract. His departure means he leaves the club well before the end of the agreement.

Before moving to Tanzania, Mngqithi spent several years in South African football, working with Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns. He was part of the Sundowns technical team for more than a decade, serving in various coaching roles.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for Mngqithi following another change of club in a relatively short period. His next move will be worth watching as the experienced coach considers the next chapter of his career.
