Express FC head coach Morley Byekwaso was pleased to see his side end a difficult run against Lugazi FC following a goalless draw in the Uganda Premier League at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe.
The Red Eagles settled for a point on the road, with the result offering some encouragement as Byekwaso continues to build a new team.
Despite the stalemate, the Express coach acknowledged that his side still lacks the cutting edge in the final third but backed his players to improve their chance conversion as the campaign progresses.
“We have faced a tough team. I am happy we have brought an end to a bad run against Lugazi,” Byekwaso said.
“We are building a new team, and you can see we still lack something in the final third, but I am confident that we will start taking our chances.”
Byekwaso also pointed to fatigue as a challenge for his team, explaining that a demanding start to the campaign has taken its toll on the players.
“You don’t expect the team to have fresh legs because we started the campaign with tough games, and that comes with a lot of fatigue,” he added.
The coach was, however, pleased with the contribution of Batambuze, praising the player’s versatility and ability to adapt despite being rotated during the encounter.
“We are lucky to have Batambuze. He is a versatile player, and even though we rotated him in the game against Lugazi, he fitted in well,” Byekwaso noted.
The draw leaves Lugazi 11th in the league standings with eight points, while Express sit 13th with six points.
Express will now look to build on the result as they play against Kataka at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, on Tuesday, October 27.
