Mwamba RFC maintained their perfect run in the Impala Floodlit Tournament, coming from behind to defeat Kenya Harlequin 20-8 in a thrilling final at the Impala Club.
Heading into the clash, Mwamba had dominated the country’s XVs scene in the post-COVID era, claiming multiple Floodlit titles along the way.
The victory also marked a repeat of their Kenya Cup final triumph earlier this year, where they bested Quins 29-15.
Determined to end Mwamba’s reign, Quins started strongly, opening the scoring with three points from a Mary Chitechi penalty.
Minutes later, Deleon Indombo dived over in the right corner to extend Quins’ lead to 8-0. Chitechi missed a subsequent penalty attempt before Diana Omoso pulled three back for Mwamba to narrow the gap before the break.
Mwamba hit back hard in the second half, with Edith Nariaka crossing the line to tie the scores. From there, Mwamba took total control of the contest: Irene Opiyo scored a crucial try, which Omoso converted to stretch their lead.
Opiyo then sealed the victory in style, crossing over for her second try of the match to complete the comeback and secure another silverware delivery for Kulabu.
