Lately, Michigan football has been having some issues with the place kicking, with Trey Butkowski having missed four of his last five field goal attempts. But help will be on the way shortly, though it won't be until next season. Even still, that's sooner than previously anticipated.
There was some offseason drama surrounding five-star kicker Ryan Jung, who transferred from Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy to Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton. But he faced issues with the latter school originally declaring him ineligible, though he eventually won out and was able to join for what was expected to be his junior year.
But, as it turns out, it's now his senior year.
According to Rivals' Hayes Fawcett, the No. 1 kicker in 2028 has reclassified to the 2027 class, which is currently on the clock.
As noted, Kohl's Kicking has him rated as the No. 1 kicker in the country. But now that he's reclassified, Rivals has him as the No. 20 kicker, though it's more accurate to follow the specialist rankings instead of the broader recruiting services.
With Jung's reclassification to 2027 and Sidney Rouleau's decommitment on Tuesday, Michigan stands pat at 22 commitments in the 2027 class.
