Eagles: 129 all out (40.2 overs). Munyonga 29, Akram 27*, Kamwemba 26; Ndlovu 3/24, Mhuriyengwe 2/16
Result: Tuskers won by 145 runs
Tuskers thrashed Eagles by 145 runs in a Pro50 Championship match at Takashinga Cricket Club, Harare, with captain Clive Madande’s 78 and a rapid 61 from Luke Jongwe setting up a commanding victory.
Put in by Eagles, Tuskers stumbled to 29-3 as Faraz Akram, Kudakwashe Macheka and Alex Falao made early inroads. Tafara Mupariwa (37) and Milton Shumba (47 from 75 balls) steadied the innings, but at 160-6 the total looked modest.
Madande changed that. He hit four sixes in 76 balls, then Jongwe smashed 61 from 42 balls, also with four sixes, before being run out. Ainsley Ndlovu’s unbeaten 14 from 10 balls helped Tuskers to 274-9, despite Akram finishing with 3/30.
Eagles never threatened the target. Tinashe Kamunhukamwe, their captain, fell for nine, Marshall Takodza went for a duck and Rodney Mupfudza, the hero in their previous wins over champions Southern Rocks, managed one. They were 14-3 inside four overs.
Ndlovu was outstanding, taking 3/24 from 10 overs, including two maidens. Jeffrey Mhuriyengwe took 2/16 from five.
Tony Munyonga made 29 from 67 balls and Akram finished unbeaten on 27, but the pair could not stem the tide.
Eagles were bowled out for 129 in 40.2 overs.
The win means Tuskers are the only unbeaten side this season.
Rhinos: 215 all out (47.3 overs). Changa 66, Aqil Ali 46, Chirwa 27; Patel 4/26, Chatara 2/23
Mega Market Mountaineers: 216-6 (46.4 overs). Myers 91, A Frost 69*, Magodo 29; Gwandu 2/53, Chisoro 2/35
Result: Mega Market Mountaineers won by four wickets
Mega Market Mountaineers finally opened their account for the season, beating Rhinos by four wickets in Kwekwe with 20 balls to spare.
Put in by the Mountaineers, Rhinos made 215 all out. Villan Changa hit 66 from 60 balls with nine fours, and Ahsan Aqil Ali added 46, but the innings faded as Ronak Patel took four wickets for 26 runs in five overs. Tendai Chatara took 2/23 from 8.3 overs, including two maidens.
The Mountaineers’ reply began shakily when Joylord Gumbie fell for seven at 9-1. Dion Myers then took control, striking 91 from 89 balls with 11 fours and a six, and added a long partnership with Alistar Frost before being caught and bowled by Tendai Chisoro at 145-2.
A wobble followed, with three wickets falling for 16 runs as Maruma went for a duck. Frost, though, never flinched. His unbeaten 69 from 125 balls was a patient anchor, and Spencer Magodo hit 29 from 27 balls before Michael Frost finished unbeaten on 12.
The target was reached in the 47th over, ending a miserable start for the Mountaineers, in which they lost their first two matches.
