Besiktas head coach Dusan Alimpijevic criticized his team’s unacceptable first-half performance after an 89-80 loss to Anadolu Efes, pointing to a slow start that left the squad with too much ground to recover despite a strong second half.

First-Half Defensive Lapses Doom Besiktas

Besiktas fell behind early as Anadolu Efes took control of the floor from the opening tip. Alimpijevic addressed the media following the 89-80 final score, stating that his team’s initial level of play failed to meet the baseline requirements for professional competition.

“Anadolu Efes played much better from the beginning of the match and deserved the win,” Alimpijevic said, according to club reports published on bjk.com.tr. He noted that while the second half brought an improved response, the damage had already been done during an opening twenty minutes that he labeled completely unacceptable.

Second-Half Response Falls Short of Full-Game Effort

The visiting side regrouped after halftime, tightening up their defensive rotations and limiting Anadolu Efes to just 32 points over the final two quarters. Alimpijevic expressed satisfaction with the team’s tactical reaction after the break, but emphasized that temporary momentum cannot substitute for a complete 60-minute or 40-minute performance.

“We saw that this is not enough to win against any team in the EuroLeague, especially against Anadolu Efes when playing on their home court,” Alimpijevic said via bjk.com.tr. He stressed that success at this level requires sustained intensity across the entire duration of the fixture rather than isolated bursts of strong play.

Heavy First Half Deficits Hinder Potential Comebacks

Alimpijevic pointed out that conceding a heavy point total in the opening half against an opponent of Anadolu Efes’ caliber creates a deficit that even an energetic third and fourth quarter cannot reliably erase.
