As Minnesota State University hockey celebrates its win against St. Thomas this past weekend, one team member credited for the team's success is celebrating a victory of his own.
MSU announced in a news release Monday that goaltender Lassi Lehti has been named the CCHA Goaltender of the Week, due to his help in leading the team to victory against St. Thomas.
MSU wrote "Lehti recorded 81 saves on 82 shots to help the Mavericks complete the sweep of St. Thomas. In Friday's game, Lehti stopped 51-of-52 shots in MSU's 3-1 win over the Tommies. His 51 saves are the most saves by a goaltender in a game this season."
Lehti not only made his mark on the ice but in the history books. He is the first Maverick to receive Goaltender of the Week honors this season.
The last MSU goaltender to do so was Alex Tracy back on March 2, the release said.
Minnesota State hosts Lake Superior State at the Mayo Clinic Health System Event Center this weekend. Friday's puck drop is scheduled for 7:07 p.m., with Saturday's set for 6:07 p.m, per MSU.
