On Wednesday, players of Algerian club MC Alger held a crisis meeting ahead of their CAF Champions League return-leg encounter against Rangers.
New Telegraph reports that MC Alger are under pressure to overturn a 2-0 deficit after losing the first leg of their second preliminary round tie against the Nigerian side at the Moshood Abiola Sports Arena in Abeokuta on Saturday.
The decisive return leg is scheduled to take place in Algiers on Friday, 23 October.
The meeting was convened at the instance of club captain Ayoub Abdelouali and head coach Ben Yahia, with the players reportedly pledging to deliver a historic performance in the second leg and secure victory.
MC Alger are aiming to win by at least three goals to overturn the aggregate deficit and book their place in the competition’s group stage.
The players’ meeting followed an earlier session with the club’s management, which was organised to motivate the squad ahead of the crucial encounter.
During the discussions, the management urged the players to give their absolute best in the return leg and make amends for the disappointing defeat suffered in Abeokuta.
The winner of the two-legged tie will advance to the group stage of the CAF Champions League.
